scrum development practices

on november 18th, a new version of the scrum guide was made available. therefore the way we work has to change. as a technical scrum master and technical agile coach, i travel a lot with teams and accompany them on their adventures. and effective finding the right product is the value-driven thought (are we building the right thing?). that means the user can work faster, do a task differently or do something that was not possible before (one could almost think of innovation). that means in a scrum sprint they work in four or five phases. but it takes more than that to realize the advantages of agile software development.

it needs a different approach. this means that teams talk about “testing” (the role) and “testing” as a phase or task. … and can focus us as humans on the exciting manual exploratory tests. humans are bad automatons. a red test from the outside perspective tells us that we need to add or rebuild a feature. the team now has more time to communicate with the outside world and to challenge, model and validate ideas, hypotheses and requirements. the outside world consists of the “stakeholders”: users, managers and other involved parties.

created in the early 1990s by ken schwaber and jeff sutherland, scrum is a framework for team collaboration on complex products of the highest possible value. a separate sprint retrospective is an opportunity for the team to talk about scrum best practices and how they can do better in the next sprint cycle. in scrum, achieving optimal velocity means the scrum team quickly and consistently delivers working increments of value to the customer (although definitions of velocity are subject to debate). the scrum master understands the full product backlog and can let team members know what needs to be done at any given time. sprint planning: when the scrum team sits down for this time-boxed meeting, they have four hours or less to decide how much of the product backlog they can complete in this sprint.

from planning the product backlog to adopting scrum best practices, scrum practitioners can use these tools to collaborate, adapt and deliver value to customers. sprint backlog: this is the increment of the product backlog that the development team agrees it can finish in one sprint. the scrum framework is scalable from an individual team practice to enterprise-wide product development teams. automating scrum practices drives agility across development teams and empowers them to manage the speed of delivery. as the co-creators of scrum and the official scrum guide note: scrum is very well-suited to intricate projects that are expected to have numerous changes as they move through the pipeline towards completion.

“this book shows readers how to use scrum, an agile software development process, to quickly. often we work harder in scrum teams, but not necessarily smarter. therefore the way we work has to scrum best practices empower team members to adapt their development approach as changes occur or problems, scrum values, scrum values, scrum principles, scrum best practices, scrum practice test.
