i did bodyweight exercises for a number of years before falling in love with free weights and the gym. i dropped bw fitness and got a 3-4 year run out of the gym but lately i started realizing that i am not feeling the same mind-muscle connection when it comes to engaging my whole body and having everything work together for compound lifts like dl’s, overhead press etc. i was thinking of substituting some lifts for bodyweight exercises while in the gym and measure my performance the same way i do with lifts, progressing on reps and hanging weights etc. the only bw stuff i currently do are dips with 60kg on my belt for 8 reps, pull-ups with 20kg for 10 reps. i would love to work towards a handstand push-up, human flags etc do you train like that everyday?
i can easily do 10 dips with 15kg but i struggle to do 10 pull-ups with even 5 kg. at the moment i haven’t any goal skill-wise, so i think that’s a good way to gain general strength. this is interesting even though going for less than 6 reps is not my cup of tea anymore. it describes how to combine free weights with calisthenics and how to construct a routine around it:
