going into the run i expected to go under one minute, don’t know why but to me it seemed like a reasonable time to run 400m. if you want to improve your time, you have to run more and those runs have to be workouts. but i think training for the 400 sounds fun and if you’re having fun you’re more likely to train hard and do something meaningful. i figured that a lot of people who are into running do some sprints now and then and keep note of times. knowing it’s going to hurt like hell but trusting that your training is enough to get you across the finish.
for your last part, about decent mileage, i want to correct something, and it’s because the 400 is a different event than anything distance related. you can run a bunch of miles a week and get in really good running shape and not break 60. i have a friend who is a 14:50 5k runner that has only run 56 for the 400. it’s just not a priority for him. i’m a 1:50ish 800m, 4:06 miler and i’ve run 49 for a 400. i might be able to go faster, but i don’t want to spend my time training for the 400 so i can run 46-47. i’m cool with where i’m at for that. to give you some perspective, my older brother was a d1 track runner who primarily ran the 800m, but he could run a 400 in 47s. but this thread and the poster’s experiences may be of interest to you if you are interested in seeing your potential.
hi! couple of days ago i timed my 400m ‘sprint’ to see how will i handle it and to, ofc, see what time will i do. going into well a good range to be in as a sprinter in the 400m is around 49 to 53 seconds. this will make you get middle of the pack elite: sub 50 sec ? excellent: 50-60 sec ? good: 60-90sec ? fair: ? not so good: ? poor: ?, What is a good time for 400m site:www.reddit.com&prmd=nsvi, What is a good time for 400m site:www.letsrun.com&prmd=nsvi, what is a good 400m time for high school girl, good 400m time for 50 year old.
